Water Damaged Sub-Flooring
Water Damaged Sub-Flooring
I recently did a sub-floor/joist repair job for a customer that was told "the joist below her flooring needed to be replaced". What they did not tell the customer was why. The "Why" was the most important part. The bathroom had been leaking from the Commode area for some time. Wanting my opinion they reached out, The first thing we discovered, a spongy feeling in the bathroom. The sub-floor was rotted around the entire commode and shower area due to leaking. So of course without addressing the cause being the leak, and the rotted sub-flooring, you simply ruin the joist that you just paid to have replaced. No matter who you use to do your work, always make sure you understand the "Why" you are having it done. Water damaged sub-flooring is not something that just happens nor should it be ignored. It will only get worse with mold and rot.
